Let’s take a look back at the past
As part of the OPEN CAFE, on 21st May MEXPERT hosted an open cafe on “Why young adults are unlikely to engage with history” Is it a lack of effective education in history? An unwillingness to learn more about the places that shaped their national identity? The OPEN CAFE opened up several discussions and revealed that the “answer” is a lot more complicated than that.
According to one participant, historic sites and house museums don’t have the ability to draw young people to their doors and need to capture their interest in a different way while visiting and help them bring the insights they gained back to their communities.
Participants discussed an effective way to engage young people in history and decided that taking the students to less popular sites that tend not to engage with folks from this age group.
We discussed the community storytelling workshop an effective method used as an engagement tool.
