New Skills to Enhance Integration of Asylum Seekers and Beneficiaries of International Protection.

This project aims at fostering social and labour inclusion of asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in EU countries involved in the project (Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden). Given the unprecedented flow of asylum seekers that recently reached Europe (more than 1.7 million since 2015), EU states must take effective actions to encourage their inclusive citizenship; however, such integration process requires tailored measures that have not yet been evenly implemented in the EU.
NEST strategy is that of enhancing soft and technical skills of professionals in the social sector (educators, social workers, psychologists) through dedicated trainings, best practices collections and the elaboration of guidelines and toolkits. As a result, the transfer of knowledge to operators of the social sector will play as a key asset in helping migrants access crucial welfare services and enter the labour market. 3 intellectual outputs will be elaborated:

(1) Guidelines on integration policies and services implemented in Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Sweden, using both qualitative and quantitative analysis. This tool will provide NGOs with a clear overview of specific EU contexts and good practices.

(2) A training methodology aimed at enhancing operators’ soft and technical skills on 6 topics: Conflict mediation/negotiation, cross-cultural and intercultural communication, community engagement, burn out prevention, skills assessment and balance of competencies, career /training and services guidance.

(3) A toolkit for mobile devices, available both online and offline, to directly support beneficiaries in accessing local fundamental services. An innovative multidimensional training based on successful integration case studies and on-the-job experiences gained by the partner organizations will also be implemented during the project.
