We have accumulated a vast experience over the years.
The project EMIRE (Empowerment of migrant and refugee women) aims to support women with a migration/refugee background in their integration into the labor market and to promote social inclusion. To this end, concepts and instruments are developed for social workers, counsellors and volunteers to advance the empowerment process and enable women to participate in their integration process
Since 2015, approximately 800,000 women have come to Europe as a result of the refugee crisis. Many of them cannot find employment in the receiving country. The main obstacles for women with a migrant or refugee background to enter the labor market are lack of recognition of qualifications and previous work experience, lower language skills and gender inequality.
EMIRE therefore aims to support women with a migrant or refugee background in their integration into the labor market and foster social inclusion. The project is aimed at two main target groups: Women with a migration/refugee background between the ages of 18 and 45 who are currently not integrated into the labor market, but who have a high potential to establish themselves in the labor market in the long term and acquire qualifications. And to social workers, (employment) consultants and volunteers who work with adult female migrants and accompany them in the integration process. EMIRE will develop concepts and instruments that support the empowerment process, promote a positive perception of women on the labor market and help women to participate in the integration process.
Both groups are actively involved in EMIRE’s activities, e.g. by participating in local activities, focus groups or training events. Furthermore, they contribute to the development of the project’s intellectual outputs in order to test and use them afterwards.
Current Status: Since the start of the project in November 2020, all partner organisations have met digitally several times and started implementing the project. The focus is currently on identifying two interview partners per country for the first intellectual output, a video platform called “My Personal Path”. In the videos, personal stories of women with a migration and/or refugee background are shared, e.g. about their experiences of integrating into the labour market. Interview partners can be from the target group directly as well as counsellors working with the target group. Due to the current Corona pandemic, the preliminary interviews will initially be conducted digitally and the video recordings will also be made using digital tools, as face-to-face meetings are currently avoided in all countries. The videos will be shot by the end of March and then post-production will begin.
