At the end of September we have met our partners, iKoBi – inklusive und interkulturelle Kompetenzerweiterung und Bildung and InterAktion from Austria, to launch our new project, GUIDE – Promoting Gender Equality and Diversity in International Youth Work through the Use of Gender-Sensitive Language.
Why Does Language Matter?
The words we choose have the power to include or exclude, empower, and either reinforce or challenge existing stereotypes. In the context of youth work, the language we use is especially significant.
As youth workers, we have a responsibility to create environments where all young people feel seen, heard, and valued. This is particularly important for those who may not fit into traditional gender categories.
By embracing gender-neutral and gender-sensitive language, we can foster spaces where every young person can express their identity without fear of judgment or exclusion.
