EFIVOS training of trainers – 23rd November – 2nd December 2020

From the 23rd to the 2nd December 2020, 3 members of the team, Ali, Memouna and Sacha took part to the EFIVOS training of trainers, which was divided in 4 days, between international online sessions and national physical sessions.

34 participants from Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Germany and Sweden had the opportunity to join online international sessions and could discover the Migratory Birds project and discuss what should be taken into account when training young people, from the recruitment to the community engagement and organisation of an editorial meeting, among others.

What for?

The EFIVOS project which was initially implemented and inspired from the Migratory Birds projects, and aims to spread this idea at an European level. It allows young people from disadvantaged background  to increase their digital skills and to be heard, as the e-newspaper they will create will depend on their favourite topics and creativity.

The goal of this training, which has been organised together with our partners, was to train the people who will accompany young people in the creation of an e-newspaper in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Germany and Sweden.

Here is an overview of the 4 days:

On the 23rd November 2020, the participants could get to know each other and learn interesting facts about partner countries involved in the project, through a game organised by Necmettin. The coordinators of Migratory Birds, Protonotariou Aristea and Myrto Symeonidou also presented their work and shared their experience about social inclusion of disadvantaged young people through the media. One of the young refugees who took part to the project explained how this experience has changed their lives and how they have now the opportunity to raise their voice thanks to the media. It was a good way for the participants to be aware to be a part of an international team and to be inspired by such testimonies. They could also understand how the use digital tools can be a way to integrate young people and have a meaningful impact.

During the national session, the team brainstormed about coming steps and discussed the recruitment of a professional team, engagement of the community action plans.

The second international and national sessions were held on the 25th November 2020 and were about the planning of training with youth, how to engage them in the project and how to start creating the e-newspaper. Tools and elements which can be useful during this process have been presented, such as the importance of creating interactivity thanks to games, but also problems that may occur during the first meeting and how to tackle them. It was a good opportunity for the participants to have a perspective on all the aspects of such a project and challenges that may arise, but also the possibility of a significant achievement at the same time.

On the 30th November 2020,  the different sessions were focused on learning how to train the young participants in content production and practical examples have been presented from the Migratory Birds experience, related to the functioning of an electronic newspaper, including editorial policy, meeting, how to organise it but also risks that may arise and how to solve them.

On the last day of the training, 2nd December 2020, participants could share their views about the previous national session and present their work to the rest of the team. Next steps have also been discussed in order to involve young people in the creation of the electronic newspaper. The national session to make a SWOT analysis, risk analysis and to plan the next steps.

Many thanks from Mexpert team to all our partners for their hard-work, commitment and flexibility regarding this training, initially supposed to be held in Greece but organised online due to the current circumstances.
